I remember staring at your
Bloodless face,
Shivering as you ran your finger
Lovingly down my cheek
Your soul reaching for my own
As the snow fell undisturbed
Around us.
The look in your eyes
Told me all I needed to know
As I bit my lip to stop the tears
I knew would surface
Just hoping to stave off the flood
Until you left
And I could crumble in a heap on
The ground where I know you’ll leave me
Where they always leave me.
I won’t hold you back,
And you can’t drag me forward
With you
So I’ll make the sacrifice
And let you go,
But you’ll never see the
Tears frozen on my cheeks
As I stood there even as you
Disappeared beyond the wall of
Falling white.
All you’ll remember is the smile
I wore as I waved you off.
The feeling of freedom
Altering the reality
Of another broken heart…
